"Johann Grosspietsch,
Commissionsrath und Hoflieferant in Breslau, wurde am 16. Mai 1836 in
Gnichwitz bei Breslau geboren, besuchte die dortige Dorfschule; hier und
in Gleinitz erhielt er auch die Vorbereitung für das Seminar. Nach
vierjähriger Präparandenzeit wurde er Ostern 1854 als Zögling in das
katholische Lehrer-Seminar zu Breslau aufgenommen, das er nach
bestandener Abgangsprüfung am 14. März 1856 verliess. Während der
zweijährigen Seminarzeit hatte er die Gesang-Uebungen des Königlichen
akademischen Instituts für Kirchenmusik, das damals unter der
vortrefflichen Leitung von Mosewius stand, mit dem besten Erfolge
besucht. Nach provisorischer Anstellung als Lehrer an den katholischen
Schulen in Lissa und Neumarkt unterzog er sich vom 28.-30. Juli 1858 der
Wiederholungsprüfung in Breslau und erlangte dadurch die Befähigung zur
selbstständigen Verwaltung eines Schulamtes und eines jeden Organisten-
und Cantoren-Postens. Darauf wurde er als dritter selbstständiger Lehrer
bei der katholischen Stadtpfarrschule in Neumarkt angestellt. Hier blieb
er, bis 1863 seine Berufung als städtischer Lehrer nach Breslau
erfolgte, wo er an verschiedenen Schulen zehn Jahre hindurch segensreich
wirkte. In Breslau trat er schnell in Folge seiner musikalischen
Befähigung und Ausbildung in den Vordergrund des musikalischen Lebens,
und sein praktischer Blick erkannte bald, dass hier eine Handlung mit
Pianoforte-Instrumenten unter der Leitung eines Musikkenners ein
Bedürfniss sei. - Schon als Lehrer hatte er dieses Unternehmen
angebahnt, das bald einen solchen Aufschwung nahm, dass er am 1. August
1873 seine hiesige Lehrerstelle aufgab, um sich voll und ganz als
Kaufmann und PianoforteFabrikant dem neuen Berufe hinzugeben. - Der
Erfolg lohnte den Berufswechsel überreich. Dank der musikalischen
Befähigung, der kaufmännischen Begabung und der unermüdlichen Thätigkeit
des Leiters nahm das Unternehmen bald einen ungeahnten Aufschwung. Schon
am 22. April 1886 wurde er zum Hoflieferanten von Alexandrine, Herzogin
Wilhelm zu Mecklenburg-Schwerin und Prinzessin von Preussen ernannt, und
am 14. Januar 1893 verlieh ihm Se. Majestät der Kaiser und König Wilhelm
II. Allergnädigst den Charakter als Commissionsrath. Aus diesem
gemeinnützigen Schaffen sowie von der Seite seiner geliebten Gattin und
aus seiner Familie wurde er schon am 4. Mai 1901 durch den Tod
abberufen. Der Schlesischen Gesellschaft für vaterländische Cultur hat
der Verstorbene seit 1887 als wirkliches Mitglied angehört."
