The J. Schambach & Merhaut piano factory in Leipzig, holder of the Prussian
King's Grand Silver Medal of 1844, hereby most strongly recommends itself to
the audience of admirers of art and informs them at the same time that Mr.
Ludwik Falk in Poznań still maintains a warehouse for its instruments.

"The main shop for pianos in the shape of
grands and squares, as well as improved mechanics of Vienna, has always
introduced regulators and power supplies from 145 to 300 tal. - Unchanged in
my trade, I will still be able to buy a new bull, and besides, I will be
buying the instruments in the best possible way. The Aelodica has a new
design. In addition, for those who are earning a living, I recommend my huge
inventory of exactly the same and beautifully made three quartered and whole
billiards of cedarwood species and the most exquisite decoration at steady
prices (fair purchasers also pay the installments.) Unchanged in my trade,
the bull remains, and in addition to the shortest distance I will make the
purchase of instruments, the easiest way to get to the
void as well
has any exchange of old 6 octave instruments. Aelodica has a new design. In
addition, for those on a payroll or for salvation, I would recommend my big
stock of complete and beautifully made three quartered and whole billiards
from the densely populated tree species and with the most exquisite
decoration at steady prices (reliable buyers also letting the money down.)
and accepts terms in different sizes. Make long distance calls. Poznan, in
July 1844 Ludwik Falk, at 21 Szerokiej Street."

1929 - "Wie liegen nun die Dinge in der
Klavierbranche ?
Firma Arnold Fibiger ist das russische Absatzgebiet verloren gegangen;
ferner ist ein Arbeitermangel vorhanden. Ausländische Arbeiter erhalten
keine Aufent haltsbewilligungen. Diese und andere wirtschaftliche
Erwägungen waren für die Firma Arnold Fibiger entscheidend, die
Produktion gegenüber der Vorkriegszeit wesentlich niedriger zu
gestalten. [...] Arnold Fibiger in Kalisch zeigte eine stattliche Zahl
Pianos und Flügel. Ein gut gelungener, 220 cm langer Flügel soll
besonders erwähnt werden. Die Firma Sommerfeld in Bromberg war mit 15
verschiedenen sehr geschmackvollen Instrumenten vertreten."
Zeitschrift für Instrumentenbau, Bd.: 50, Leipzig, 15/10/1929, p. 54
(daten.digitale-sammlungen.de)
1948 - "We will
produce pianos.
In 1878, the Fibiger piano factory was established in Kalisz. Fibiger
pianos and upright pianos are famous throughout Poland to this day, and
the export of pianos and upright pianos made in Kalisz abroad spread the
fame of the Polish craftsman and manufacturer. - Before the war, there
were three factories in Poland producing pianos and upright pianos.
Today, none of them produce musical instruments. During the war, the
Germans converted the Fibiger factory's production into furniture. - And
today, over three years after the war, the Piano Factory under State
Administration in Kalisz produces exclusively furniture. Beautiful,
grained, veneered artistic furniture—only the name "Piano Factory"
remains of the former production. - However, there is evidence that this
name may already reflect the nature of the factory's production this
year. - Why were no pianos produced at Fibiger's after the war? Because
there was a shortage of auxiliary parts, and above all, piano actions,
which the factory had been supplied with from abroad before the war. -
Currently, contact has been established with the "Mechanism" factory in
Paris, which has expressed its willingness to send the first shipments
of piano actions. - In addition, a piano action factory will be opened
this year in Lublin, in the Recovered Territories. - As can be seen from
the above, the matter of resuming the production of pianos and upright
pianos in Kalisz is not a fantasy, and perhaps this year, on the 70th
anniversary of the factory's existence, the first pianos will be
produced. Speaking of piano production, one very significant fact should
be noted: in Poland, there are only a few skilled carpenters and
technicians who can produce them. These people are mostly elderly. Their
numbers are dwindling. It is essential that these people develop new
professional talent. This will only be possible when the production of
pianos and upright pianos resumes. There are such professionals at the
Fibiger factory, and these people want to get back to their beloved work
as quickly as possible.
However, before production of grand pianos and upright pianos begins,
the factory releases beautiful furniture to the market. Furnishing the
General Department Stores has become its specialty. - Among other
things, this factory has produced furniture for the General Department
Stores in Łódź and Kalisz. Currently, the Fibiger factory has received
an order to produce furnishings for the General Department Store in
Wrocław. - The workers employed at this factory have decided to
participate in a labor competition as of May 1st of this year. The labor
competition will cover the following areas: exceeding production
standards, improving production quality, exemplary tool maintenance, and
strict adherence to work discipline. - In order to inform potential
competitors from other furniture factories about the production
capabilities of the Fibiger Piano Factory under the State Administration
in Kalisz, we inform you that the Kalisz factory exceeds the plan every
month, in January of this year. It was 150% completed in February, 126%
completed in March, and 137% completed in March. - The workers at the
Kalisz factory are ready to compete with any furniture factory in Poland
and will accept any challenge."
