PARIS - "M.

PARIS - "In M. Ruch's exhibit we found something very much like a useum, containing the finest specimens of modern cabinet making. In the first place, there is a handsome Louis the Fifteenth drawing room grand, ornamented with Martin varnish, and the paintings on it are most artistic and in excellent taste; the other instrument is in rosewood, with transparent varnish, and is an undoubted success.

The uprights consist of a Louis the Sixteenth, in mottled mahogany, with mouldings in brass, extremely graceful, elegant, and of perfect arrangement, leaving nothing to be desired. Next, another Louis the Sixteenth, with polished black case of excellent execution; a fine model of the same style in walnut. The design of this instrument is very successful, and the choice of the wood a very good one.

Another is a Henry the Second model in ebony. Alongside are some very artistic specimens of velvet surrounded by violet and aramanth coloured wood, the room being lemon colour, relieved with aramanth coloured mouldings and friezes in violet, set off by those designs in marquetérie of which M. Chevrel alone has the secret, and which are one of the successes of the exhibition.

We offer our congratulations to M. Ruch, a respected member of the jury, whose in struments are treated with such consummate art that they excite the admiration of the numerous visitors who stop in front of his stand." Musical Opinion and Music Trade Review, Volume 12, 01/08/1889, p. 548
